Two men who ran from a Mississippi Highway Patrol Thursday evening are in custody after eluding officers for more than two hours.

MHP spokesman Kervin Stewart said Brandon Lane, 28, and Cortez Harris, 27, both of Vicksburg, were arrested several hours after they ran from a state trooper who had stopped the car they were in for speeding.

Lane, who was a passenger in the car ran off on foot as soon as the car stopped. Harris, the driver, was handcuffed after giving false information to the trooper false information. When another trooper arrived,

Harris ran into a wooded area north of I-20.

After the pair ran off, Warren County authorities received a call for assistsance from MHP to help search for the men. County and state officers, including the sheriff’s office K-9 and a Vicksburg Police K-9 unit.

Authorities set up a perimeter and began looking for the man. About 8:30 p.m., Harris was seen coming out of a wooded area still in handcuffs and walking in the eastbound lane. He was arrested by state troopers and sheriff’s deputies on the bridge. Lane was also captured and arrested.

Harris was taken to Merit Health River Region complaining of pain in his wrist and side.
