An additional COVID-19 death reported in Warren County Sunday

For the first time in 19 days, there were no new COVID-19 cases reported in Warren County. Sadly, though, state health officials reported another virus-related death, bringing the total number of Warren County residents who have died from the virus to 26.

Sunday’s report from the Mississippi State Department of Health announced 672 new cases statewide and 10 deaths. Since the first case of COVID-19 was confirmed in Mississippi on March 11, the state has confirmed 60,553 cases and 1,703 deaths.

In Warren County, since the first case was reported locally on March 29, a total of 964 cases.

The no new cases on Sunday did move the county’s 14-day totals somewhat lower. The previous 14-day period is a measuring point for state health officials in determining counties that are either hot spots or those in danger of being declared a hot spot.

Over the past 14 days, Warren County has reported 274 new cases or a ratio of 562 cases per 100,000 residents. Both are still above the state’s threshold of 200 new cases and 500 per 100,000 residents.
