Warren County continues to see a downward trend in new COVID-19 cases

For the first time since mid-June, Warren County has had a seven-day period with less than 10 new COVID-19 cases per day.

With the 13 new cases reported by the Mississippi State Department of Health on Thursday, Warren County has seen an average of 9.8 cases per day for the past week. In the previous seven days, ending Aug. 13, the county had seen 20.5 new cases per day on average.

Unfortunately, recent trends have not been all good. Wednesday, the county recorded another virus-related death, which marked the 37th overall and the 13th reported in August. Of the 37 deaths so far, 18 have been connected to one of the county’s long-term care facilities.

The 13 new cases Thursday also pushed the total number of cases reported in Warren County during the pandemic to 1,220.

Overall, the state reported 894 new cases Thursday and 27 deaths. Since the first case was reported in Mississippi on March 11, the state has seen 75,449 total cases and 2,190 virus-related deaths. Mississippi ranks 21st in the country in the total number of cases, and 20th in deaths.

Two new virus-related deaths were reported Thursday in Yazoo County, bringing that county’s death toll to 17. Thursday’s report also showed Yazoo County had now reported 912 confirmed cases.

Claiborne County has now reported 418 cases, with 15 deaths, while Sharkey County has seen 226 total cases and seven deaths. Issaquena County, which was the last county in the state to report a positive case, now has 45 total cases and two deaths.
