Watch: Emergency units respond to vehicle fire

Thanks to the actions of a bystander, a local motorist was uninjured when his vehicle burst into flames Monday afternoon.

Monday afternoon, units with the Vicksburg Police Department and the Vicksburg Fire Department responded to a vehicle fire at the intersection of Drummond and Belmont streets, near Martin’s at Midtown restaurant, at around 1:30 p.m. Monday.

When they arrived, a dark-colored Dodge Charger had flames roaring out of the engine compartment.

Vicksburg Fire Chief Craig Danczyk said Engine 6 responded to the fire and that the vehicle was severely damaged, but the driver was uninjured and personal belongings in the vehicle were saved. The vehicle was considered a total loss.

Danczyk said a bystander near the intersection saw flames coming out of the front of the vehicle and alerted the driver, who was in the car when it caught fire. The driver was able to get away from the fire safely.
