Salvation Army announces grand reopening of its thrift store Friday

The Salvation Army of Vicksburg’s family thrift store has gone through a makeover in recent days and will have its grand reopening event Friday.

The thrift store, located at 539 Mission 66, closed Monday. Since then, staff and volunteers have not only conducted a deep clean of the facility but reorganized its layout with the hopes of improving sales.

“Sales were pretty bad and it was difficult to move around,” Major Janna Torgerson, Vicksburg Corps Officer, said. “It needed refreshing and reorganizing. The whole idea behind the grand reopening is to let people know, to remind them, that we are here and we are open.”

The store will reopen Friday at 10:30 a.m. In addition to the reorganization, the thrift store will have new operating hours moving forward. The store will now be open Wednesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and donations from the community are still welcome.

“Our volunteers have been doing the grunt work. We have volunteers who have been with us many years, including volunteers from the Coast Guard, The Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary and our advisory board and we’re thankful to all of them,” Torgerson said. “Our volunteers are extremely skilled and have assisted us in painting and reorganizing the thrift store. One of them is a licensed contractor and has assisted us in rebuilding a wall. We’re so excited for the community to see the improvements.”
